Who doesn’t love an Italian?! The winter weather certainly does make us all crave the stodgy comfort of risotto and pizza. Where better satisfy these cravings than Zizzi’s in Newport?!

We were greeted with some gorgeous flavoured prosecco! There was passion fruit, blackberry and lemon and strawberry and mint, which definitely made them go down a lot quicker.

To start, Alice opted for the carb-ilicious ‘Little Soul Breads’ with garlic mayo dip. They were warm and soft in the middle and beautifully seasoned and crispy on the outside with enough dipping sauce to spare! Gemma opted for a classic bruschetta, which was delightful – a perfect combination of flavours and textures. I couldn’t resist the King Prawns in garlic butter to start. They melted in the mouth and went so well with two ‘Little Soul Breads’ at the side.

For mains, I opted for my  Italian go-to; Spaghetti Carbonara. It was one of the best I have had! Whether that was because it was piled high with parmesan or just the beautiful creamy flavour, either way, it was delicious! Alice had the Spiedini Pollo, a chicken and vegetable hanging skewer with roasted potatoes and green beans. The roast potatoes were beautifully crispy and the chicken was seasoned perfectly! Gemma’s ham and cheese pizza went down a treat – it was so big, she had some left over for lunch the next day!

And if we weren’t full enough already, round came the deserts! Gemma had the Tiramisu which was light and fluffy and the perfect way to finish the meal. Being the chocoholics that we are, me and Alice dived into the Salted Caramel Chocolate Brownie. To say it was beautiful would be an understatement. The whole thing was so rich and delicious, it left us wanting more!

If you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience, Zizzi’s is the place to go! All the food was delicious and was the perfect winter warmer. We were so full we were practically rolling out of the door! We can’t wait to go back again ?
