Maggie’s, over the last few years has been developing a partnership with Velindre Cancer Centre and we are now in the process of building a new Maggie’s in the ground of Velindre; the centre will be open in early 2019 and will be there to support anyone affected by cancer across south east Wales.

Maggie’s Centres are there to provide practical, emotional and social support completely free of charge to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis, not only the person living with cancer but their family and friends as well. Built in the grounds of cancer hospitals, we offer a break from the hospital environment and the chance to meet people who know what you’re going through. We’re funded entirely by the generosity of supporters; we do not receive any government funding towards our running costs. Our centres are calm and relaxing places where people can find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people; places where to simply sit in peace and quiet. Our core programme of support has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing during treatment and recovery, this programme includes relaxation classes, yoga, art therapy, tai chi, mindfulness as well as support groups for specific cancers.

The new centre will be the second in Wales and will build on the support offered currently in Maggie’s Swansea, allowing us to extend our unique support across the whole of south Wales. People affected by cancer can drop in to a Centre 9-5, Monday to Friday with no referral or appointment required to instantly access expert advice from our cancer support professionals.
